Native students attending
Aboriginal institutes are becoming pilots, registered nurses, social workers,
early child educators and computer & business professionals. Ontario's
Aboriginal post-secondary institutes offer more than 150 courses and programs,
low student:instructor ratios (average 18:1) and have doubled collective
enrollment figures. Programs have expanded to include secondary programs,
training programs and upgrading.
Ontario's Aboriginal post-secondary
institutes are succeeding without annualized core funding to operate or
deliver their programs. Provincial and Federal governments do not recognize
Aboriginal institutes as legitimate post-secondary institutes and therefore
are ineligible for core funding.
Desire, compassion, will, motivation
and perseverance of First Nation communities and First Nations people
is what fuels Ontario's Aboriginal institutes. This is truly a case of
"Aboriginal Education … With Pride."
