NATIVE COMMUNITY TO LAUNCH COLLEGE COURSE ON RENEWABLES

FORT FRANCES, ON, 2003-02-04 (canadian association for renewable energies)

The Seven Generations Education Institute in northern Ontario will launch a program this year to examine the relationship of renewable energy within the First Nation community. The college-level curriculum will examine wind, solar power and energy efficiency and, upon graduation, students will have the skills to design renewable energy systems and improve building efficiency.

Prerequisites include an electrical background and the program will be accredited through Lambton College. The course on solar power generation focuses on First Nation people's relationship to the sun while the course on wind teaches the ways in which wind was traditionally used in daily life. An introductory course focuses on Ojibwe language use that revolves around the theme of renewable energies.
